The premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder took place Thursday night and showed the second Thor movie starring Taika Waititi after Thor: Ragnarok had blown everyone’s socks off. This one introduces Natalie Portman as Lady Thor alongside Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. Russell Crowe appears in the lead role of Zeus. Chris Hemsworth will, of course, reprise his role as the almighty Thor.
In the wake of the premiere, social media reactions are pouring in from those who attended.
The feedback seems overwhelmingly positive, with many citing Portman as the show’s star. As always, these comments are worth taking with a pinch of salt. I remember overwhelmingly positive reactions to superhero movies as bad as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That said, Waititi has rarely set a foot wrong. No reason to think Thor: Love and Thunder won’t reign as hard as the last Thor outing.
Here are some of the first tweets and takes…
#ThorLoveAndThunder is predictably hilarious yet unexpectedly personal and heartfelt. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s performances shine as Waititi delivers an emotional story. I think this might be my favorite Thor movie. pic.twitter.com/i7BpmQHvQ1

Another classic Thor adventure! #ThorLoveAndThunder is everything I wish it were. Big, colorful, weird Guns N’ Roses fueled battles with a hopelessly romantic story about discovering love in unexpected places. Especially Christian Bale & Russell Crowe are great. And Korg! pic.twitter.com/fu0gTUuMRj

#ThorLoveAndThunder is much more episodic than I suspected. Gets a big smile. Very basic, cookie-cutter villain with Christian Bale. I want the buddy cop comedy with Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson. Matt Damon has to go to Broadway. Post credits are EPIC! Pure fun. pic.twitter.com/2J5UQuHHSA

#ThorLoveAndThunder is exciting. My favorite #Thor movie of the four.
Taika Waititi through and through. It’s mature, the soundtrack rocks, and there are big surprises. So much fun.
Feels like the best of MCU Phase 1 and Phase 4 in one item. I loved it. pic.twitter.com/3SO5yoy6j0

#ThorLoveAndThunder is electric! A wacky, energetic delight with an aces-packed cast crushing scene after scene. I laughed a lot (my face hurts); the threat of Gorr by Christian Bale is chilling, but I especially loved that it’s a movie full of good vibes and heart. pic.twitter.com/CjVHkxAprC

holy shit. #ThorLoveandThunder is the perfect blend of Taika at its best, with comedy and punch all in one. I left this movie emotionally satisfied while also sobbing and just perfection. We stand a dad rock soundtrack. in the words of my new favorite characters: AHH pic.twitter.com/MytduVq89h

Thor: Love and Thunder are so Taika Waititi! It’s wild, hilarious, action-packed, and even dark. Christian Bale is phenomenal when Gorr and Tessa Thompson crush it! Get ready to love those goats! Not enough Guardians (I’m biased on that). Mid credit is FIRE! #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/JaRDukAEcT

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is a great time with exciting action, lots of laughter (the screaming goats!) & a deep story about absent gods and our longing for love. Natalie Portman makes a mighty return, and Christian Bale defeats it as the terrifying Gorr. The best Thor movie yet! pic.twitter.com/s42SkqxlJj
